Inspired by the cultural richness of French nightclubs, Michael was particularly drawn to the shift from balls to dance halls in the 1920s. The textures used in these nightclubs, particularly the use of velvet, drapery, and silk, also captured his attention.
As he progressed with the design process, the idea of a “velvet underground” that dominated the nightclub scene resonated with Lo Sordo, who envisioned the use of dimly lit silk that would create a glistening effect under the reflection of moonlight.
